Student Center
The University of the District of Columbia’s Student Center is the centerpiece of a 10-year campus-wide renovation on the Van Ness campus. The 86,500 square foot targeted Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum building combines 76,000 square feet of new building and 10,500 square feet of addition and infill construction.
LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices.There are 4 tiers of certification with Platinum being the highest achievable level at 80+ points. The Student Center has been designed to Platinum Certification standards. There are five categories of LEED which compromise the majority of the anticipated student center LEED points:
• Sustainable Sites
• Water Efficiency
• Energy and Atmosphere
• Materials and Resources
• Indoor Environmental Quality
